We are very grateful to everyone that remembers us in their Will. Not only does this make a lasting difference to the lives of people with a brain injury but it also means that our supporters can leave a positive and life changing legacy. When a will is being prepared and a charity is considered for a legacy it is often difficult to decide which one to support. We would ask you to kindly consider Headway B&S because it is our endeavour to make life easier and better for the Brain Injured and their families in our area.

A legacy, can be a fixed amount of money, a percentage of your estate, or an item of property, such as a house. It may also reduce Inheritance Tax. To leave a legacy, you need to have a valid will.

Making a will is vital to secure the future of your family. If you die without a will, it can cause real problems for your loved ones. It will also cost more money to sort things out. A valid will puts you in control of your affairs and gives peace of mind. If your will is not up to date, perhaps it is time to act.

To be safe, it is better to have your Will written by a solicitor, who will ensure it is correctly witnessed and valid. You can now have a will written or updated through Headway's network of solicitors, at a reduced price.

Most gifts left to charities are exempt from Inheritance Tax and can also help to reduce the amount that you pay. More information can be found on the HMRC website.

How to leave a legacy

1. A Residuary bequest

You may wish to leave specific sums and properties to a named person, and the rest of your estate, or some fraction therefore, to Headway. The recommended wording for such a bequest is:

I give the residue of my estate to the charity known as Headway Birmingham & Solihull(charity number 1008798) absolutely for its general purposes and I direct that the receipt of the treasurer or other proper officer shall be a full and sufficient discharge to my executors

2. A Bequest of a fixed sum (Pecuniary gift)

You may wish to leave a specific sum of money to Headway Birmingham & Solihull. The recommended wording for such a bequest is:

I give the sum of £ to the charity known as

Headway Birmingham & Solihull

Charity number 1008798

​absolutely for its general purposes and I direct that the receipt of the treasurer or other proper officer shall be a full and sufficient discharge to my executors.

It is also important you keep your Will up to date as many life changes, such as getting married, having a baby, moving home, etc., can affect it.

GIFTS IN MEMORY

​

A gift in memory is a special way to celebrate the life of a loved one, benefiting others who have been affected by brain injury.

It is thanks to voluntary donations such as these that we are able to provide the information, support and services that are so vitally needed to brain injury survivors, their families and carers.

Donate in memory of a loved one

There are three ways you can make a donation in memory:

 

We will reply with a letter of thanks to the donor, unless otherwise requested. Please provide details of the next of kin if you would like us to let them know we have received the donation. We will not disclose the donation amount.

Collect at a funeral

If you would prefer donations to floral tributes, it is a good idea to let your executors know of your wishes, or to include it in the details about your funeral.
